August is recognized nationally as Make-A-Will Month — the perfect time to create or update your will and ensure your loved ones are protected. It's one of the most important documents you'll ever sign, yet over 60% of Americans don't have one. Without a will, the state decides who gets your assets, and the probate process can be long, expensive, and stressful for your family.

As a Licensed Legal Document Assistant, I can help you prepare your will, living trust, advance healthcare directive, and other estate planning documents — professionally and affordably, without the cost of an attorney. I'm licensed, bonded, and insured in California.

Estate Planning Services I Offer:

  • Last Will & Testament — Name guardians for minor children and specify how your assets should be distributed.
  • Living Trusts — Avoid probate and keep your estate private.
  • Advance Healthcare Directive — Ensure your medical wishes are honored if you can't speak for yourself.
  • Durable Power of Attorney — Designate someone to handle your finances if you become incapacitated.

Heading Off to College? Get Your Young Adult Legal Packet

Watching your child head off to college is one of life's biggest milestones — exciting, emotional, and full of last-minute packing. But amid buying dorm supplies and scheduling move-in day, there's one critical step most parents overlook: once your child turns 18, you can no longer legally make medical or financial decisions for them.

Why Your 18-Year-Old Needs Legal Documents

Under California law, when your child turns 18, they're a legal adult — even if they're still on your health insurance, living under your roof, or listed as your dependent. Without the right documents:

  • You can't access their medical records or talk to doctors if they're injured or hospitalized — even in an emergency.
  • You can't manage their finances — bills, bank accounts, leases, or insurance claims — without legal authorization.
  • You may need court intervention to make decisions in a crisis, which is expensive, slow, and stressful.

The Young Adult Legal Packet — Everything They Need

At LegalEase Document Services, I've put together a Young Adult Legal Packet that gives parents peace of mind and young adults the protection they need. Each packet includes three essential documents:

Advance Healthcare Directive

Lets your child name someone to make medical decisions if they can't speak for themselves.

HIPAA Authorization

Allows doctors and hospitals to share medical information with parents or trusted adults.

Durable Power of Attorney

Grants authority to handle finances, sign documents, and manage legal affairs.

Family Action Plan checklist from LegalEase Document Services with sections for conversation, document preparation, execution, distribution, and annual review

The Family Action Plan: 5 Simple Steps

1

Have the Conversation

Sit down as a family and talk about why these documents matter. It's not about distrust — it's about being prepared. Make it a normal part of the "adulting" checklist.

2

Prepare the Documents

I'll handle the paperwork — all three documents, customized with your young adult's information and preferences. No legal jargon, no confusion.

3

Execute (Sign & Notarize)

We'll meet to review everything, answer questions, and get signatures notarized. Quick, painless, and done right.

4

Distribute

Copies go to your young adult, parents, and their college health center or primary care doctor.

5

Annual Review

Life changes. We'll check in yearly to make sure documents still reflect your young adult's wishes and situation.
